I have always had a lifelong love for health and nutrition. After having my two daughters, my desire grew to learn the most I could about nutrition and health. I wanted to help my girls be the best versions of themselves. What I didn't realize back then was how much our emotional and mental health are connected to our physical health. If one is not taking care of all aspects of their health, they will struggle. So that is where we will start. We will determine your family's individual needs for nutrition, sleep and movement. This is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle and the first step in achieving your goals.
1. Food. I realized early on that I needed to make sure my girls were eating whole foods that were nutrient dense. Not easy, as they were incredibly picky. This is by far the MOST important part of a foundation because every cell in your body is created from the food you consume.
2. Sleep. So few kids get the recommended uninterrupted sleep they need. (This is even more difficult when you throw technology into the picture.) Sleep is the time your body repairs itself, solidifies memories, flushes out toxins and rejuvenates you for your day ahead. Sleep must be a priority.
3. Exercise. Your body is meant to move! 93% of American's are now metabolically unhealthy. That puts them at an increased risk for diabetes, heart disease, cancer, cognitive decline, mental health conditions and autoimmune disorders. The list is staggering, but is in our control as parents to set our kids up for success in the future. We need to lay a foundation where our kids believe it is normal to exercise (hopefully outdoors) eat well, and sleep soundly.
From there we dive into the nitty gritty details of what your family needs to be successful in achieving the goals you have. We will discuss nutrient needs, technology's impact, the importance of downtime, individual disposition, social connection and stress management to start.
